LTE connection is not available on /e/OS on Teracube 2e (emerald) due to "potential eCSFB issue"
- /e/ version: 1.19.1-s-20240109372023-stable-emerald
- Device model(s): Teracube 2e https://doc.e.foundation/devices/emerald
- Developer mode enabled: yes/no
- Device rooted: yes/no
- Trackers blocker enabled: yes/no
Summary
It looks like LTE (4G) connection and VoLTE is not available on /e/OS on Teracube 2e (emerald, 2021 version) in Tokyo, Japan. It connects to the carrier network on 3G only.
Here (available on murena.com as well) is the band specification of Teracube 2e:
- LTE (4G): 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 7 / 12 / 17 / 20
- GSM: 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
- 3G: B1 / B2 / B4 / B5 / B8
My mobile carrier, NTT Docomo, uses these bands for LTE: 1, 3, 19, 21, 26, 28, 42, which should enable the phone to connect to 4G network. See https://www.soumu.go.jp/main_content/000692919.pdf for refenrence (in Japanese). The 4G network is available in Tokyo as I have confirmed on another phone, on which the latest /e/ OS is installed.
Before flashing /e/ OS manually I also definitely have seen the VoLTE icon on the toolbar on the default Android OS shipped with Teracube 2e (I should have taken the screenshot).
I am not sure if this is specific to /e/ OS or inherited from the upstream Lineage code.
The problem
Steps to reproduce
- Install /e/ OS on Teracube 2e https://doc.e.foundation/devices/emerald
- Connect to a foreign mobile carrier outside of US/EU maybe?
What is the current behavior?
The phone should connect to LTE network (band 1 or 3).
What is the expected correct behavior?
It only connects to 3G network.
