Spot search unable to resolve search off highlighted items when dragged into Firefox headder. (S4)
- Debian 12 (Bookworm)
- Desktop
- Firefox 115.4.0esr (64-bit) & Firefox 119.0.1 flatpak (64-bit)
- add-ons: uBlock Origin (Version 1.53.0), Privacy Possum (Version 2019.7.18) , Add custom search engine (Version 4.2).
Summary
When using Firefox/ESR and having Spot set as default search with add-on "Add custom search engine" by Tom Schuster, the search will fail when dragging any highlighted items to the header of Firefox.
The problem
Install the add-on "Add custom search engine" by Tom Schuster. then open the add-on and fill out the screen that pops up. (note: This is the way I found to add search engines to Firefox). Then once set ad default go to a page and highlight a string of text and drag it to the top of firefox.
Currently I get a new tab with "Murena, Something's broken; we're on it!" this has been repeeted in both Firefox, Firefox ESR, and LibreWolf. With failures in both Firefox browsers but no issues in LibreWolf. (based on Firefox and up to date.)
The outcome should be a new tab is opened and a search is initiated and show the results.
Technical informations
- add-ons: uBlock Origin (Version 1.53.0), Privacy Possum (Version 2019.7.18) , Add custom search engine (Version 4.2).

Solutions
Use different default browser, find a new method of adding Spot to Firefox.
As I have been having trouble adding Spot as a test on my device and have not had a second device to test I can't confirm if it is the add-on, browser, or search.
I have had no issues on LibreWolf running the same stack of add-ons or Firefox for mobile. Saw no issue with the short time I used Mull.
