add peripheral detail information on device description page
- /e/ version: website
- Device model(s): d2s (and others)
Summary
on https://doc.e.foundation/devices/d2s page, there is device information, however there is no way to find peripheral detail and driver information
Description
What is the current behavior?
on the web page, only "naive" information is displayed according to embedded devices like
- Accelerometer
- Barometer
- Compass
- Fingerprint reader
- GPS
- Gyroscope
- Proximity sensor
- Qi wireless charging
- Qi reverse wireless charging
What is the improved behavior?
I would like to have detailled information about the peripheral and the driver status
peripheral | model | driver |
---|---|---|
Accelerometer | qualcomm QCblabla1232 | proprietary blob |
Barometer | Manufacturer Model | Open source |
Compass | XXXX MZZZZZZ | Open source |
What does it bring?
proprietary blobs are privacy concern, as it can be used to perform "low level" privacy tracking, when porting devices, the most problematic information to find is the devices attached (it could be nice to have a wiki page on how to get the information in order to port a device to /e/os (I have some trlte n910f that would love to go out of google....) one can find some info using adb root; adb shell; cat bus/i2c/devices/*/name
but how the rom is built is more known by devices maintainers
displaying the manufacturer and chip model as well as driver state could allow user to better know what is proprietary, search if there are opensource alternative and made proposal to switch smoothly to fully opensource software
