Confusing "SMS message limit" permission request message
- /e/ version: 0.23
- Device model(s): Gigaset GS290
Summary
"SMS message limit" permission request messages should be rewritten to be less confusing. They're probably inherited from LineageOS in their current state (https://gitlab.com/LineageOS/issues/android/-/issues/4503).
Description
What is the current behavior?
In the "Message" app, when I try to send an SMS, I get the message:
"Sending SMS messages
Message is sending a large number of SMS messages. Do you want to allow this app to continue sending messages?
Deny / Allow"
As I rarely send short messages and as this was the only SMS I was trying to send, this confused me a lot. I didn't even remember the underlying setting that causes this message to appear. In "Settings -> Privacy -> Trust -> SMS message limit", you can limit the number of SMS messages allowed per minute to 5, 10, 30, 50, 100 or 200 messages. But you can also set the limit to "Always confirm" (which I did), meaning you'll always be prompted for permission when trying to send an SMS.
What is the improved behavior?
I think the permission request message (and its connection to the "SMS message limit" option) would be much easier to understand if this read something along the lines of:
"Message has reached the SMS message limit you configured (currently set to "Always confirm"). Allow this app to send this message?"
"Message has reached the SMS message limit you configured (currently set to 5 per minute). Allow this app to continue sending messages?"
