Android toasts occupy screen for too long

Each time I get a Toast message, it's displayed for quite a long time, and it always occupies the screen in such a way that it's impossible to see or interact with anything hidden behind it. Most annoyingly, they're placed exactly above the space bar of the keyboard, making it impossible to type anything while a Toast is displayed.
Therefore, it would be nice if it was possible to manually adjust how long Toasts shall be shown or even whether they shall be shown at all when switching the app.
Also, the Toast display duration varies heavily. Sometimes, it's only 10 seconds, other times it's over a whole minute, which is even more annoying.
For example, GadgetBridge always displays the message “Bluetooth is disabled.” after booting the device, which can't be turned off by means of the system settings.
