Advanced Privacy - increase comprehensibility
- /e/ version: v1.0rc-Q
- Device model(s): FP3 + any
- Device rooted: no
Summary
All the initial points are dealt in different issues, as explained here. In this issue we focus on the x-axis in tracker graph.
For average users the Advanced Privacy (AP) central might not that easy to understand. Therefore I am proposing to use the same wording for things wherever it is possible and to use icons/color scheme to make it for readers easier to understand what belongs together. What do I mean concretely? In this issue I am focusing on the home page of AP only and I produced a mock-up to simplify explanation (see below)
- In the upper part of AP-home the users can quickly see his/her settings with regard to trackers, location and IP address. In the lower part, these settings can be tweaked
- If there is a relationship between the upper and the lower part, use the same wording and the icons
- If below the term 'app trackers' is used, use it above as well
- If below the term 'my location' is used, use it above as well
- If below the term 'my internat address' is used, don't use just the IP above (here the mock-up is not coherent neither). Personally, I'd prefer the term IP-address as it is widely used and it is shorter.
- If you have three colours (for simplification reasons I name the icon colours) - blue, orange and red and if you use them above, make sure that the three colours remain together in the same order below as well. The 'green section' (Manage apps' permissions) should e above or below
- The tracker graphics: Make sure that at least the x-axis is labelled. This makes it much easier to understand what is being displayed and it looks much less 'naked' :-)
Solution
Add an x-axis with markers every hour and labels every six hours as displayed in this mock-up:
