Technical informations
I asked a user for logs and will add if possible.
Description from a user: I contacted you less than a year ago, just after purchasing a fairphone 3 from you. The phone was shutting off about 3 times in 3 weeks. I was supposed to reinitialize the phone to the warehouse version but I had too much work to do and I had done too much install and personalization on the phone to do it right away. I needed the phone for work purposes. So it went along all these months with shutting off once in a while. About twice a week maybe. About a week ago it started all of a sudden to shut off about every 10 minutes on average at least it was crazy, randomly though, I can't find any logical pattern. The phone was of no use so I put it back to warehouse specs. The first day, I thought it was solved but it shut down once... With no add of additional app. And progressively it kinds of shuts down more frequently day by day. About once very 2 hours right now I would say The main trend was the great improvement after radical reinitialization though, can't say it is increasing back to every 10 minutes. So it looks to me like this is more of a software issue than a hardware issue. Although it could be the hardware not handling high temperatures I don't know. But I can't say I found a correlation between the issue and overusing... Looks more like some processes accumulating instead of erasing. Like logs or background tasks going oversize... Why is it happening from warehouse conditions though I can't find a good reason. I can add that I updated right away to the October update of e os, just after reinitializing. Oh yeah, I almost forgot : when it shuts down, the most annoying thing is that it can be very difficult to boot it back. I most of the time need to press the power button for 30s, often several times, in order to make it start back. And when I say "back", I noticed that all the apps that were open when shutting down are still open after entering my password. I thought it meant that the phone does not really shut down but when I ask for the phone to restart, it actually has all the apps still running too... I was surprised to see that. Don't know if this is a normal behavior...
Solutions
It seems that switching to 2G, might be causing this. See #4175 (comment 155595)
Workaround
Factory reset sometimes help, but sometimes only reduces how frequently the issue happens, does not always eliminate the issue.
