can't manually install exposure notification implementation (microG)
- /e/ version: 0.16-q (IMG-e-0.16-q-20210424112062-dev-FP3.zip)
- Device model(s): FP3+
Summary
If automatic updates are turned off in the Apps
e/OS appstore, I can't install the microG version with exposure notifications.
The problem
Steps to reproduce
When setting up a reset phone with e/OS, turn off automatic updates in the Apps
e/OS appstore before establishing an internet connection. (else under some circumstances the exposure notifications will be installed automatically)
Then open the Apps
e/OS appstore, search for microG
and install the microG version with exposure notifications.
What is the current behavior?
Keeps saying installing
. Waited for minutes, but nothing happened. Also rebooting didn't help.
Solutions
Workaround
If you can enable automatic updates, just re-enable them. But this might not be an option if there are problematic updates which can't be easily installed and rolled back. (e.g. app can't export data you don't want to loose)
Use NanoDroid or the Magisk microG Installer Revived
module.

Alternatively for some countries there are apps with internal exposure notification implementation. But those alternative apps are not available for all countries.
