Samsung S5 Plus with kccat6 going into infinite reboot loop

  • /e/ version: 0.14 to 0.16
  • Device model(s): Samsung Galaxy S5 Plus (SM-G901F)

Summary

Even after upgrading to the latest build of /e/, my phone still goes into reboot loop right after I ask to encrypt my phone.

This is a continuation of issue #1908 (closed).

The problem

Steps to reproduce

  1. Upgrade from /e/ v0.11 to v0.14 from the system parameters
  2. After the upgrade is completed, go to the security menu and ask for the phone encryption
  3. Wait for the encryption to start

What is the current behavior?

After confirming the phone encryption, the phone reboots itself in order to start the encryption process. Actually, as soon as the /e/ splash screen appears, the phone reboots; and this repeats endlessly until I remove the battery from the phone.

What is the expected correct behavior?

After the first automatic reboot, the phone should process the phone encryption.

Technical informations

I would like to add some, but I don't know how to do this in this reboot loop situation.

Solutions

Workaround

Once the problem occurs, a full phone reinstall is needed. The only workaround is to avoid the phone encryption at all, thus missing this feature.

The worst thing is: a full system restore from backup done previously by TWRP is not enough, as the restored system encounters a reboot loop too! Even after formatting the phone completely!
