Distance Unit setting not respected in navigation screen

The problem

Metric unit preference in settings works for the "Directions" screen, which displays the route distance (in meters), duration and a list of individual steps.

However, once navigation is started, imperial units are used for everything (Turn instructions at top use yards, total distance left in bottom info floater uses miles)
