Encryption not working with Extended ASCII characters in password

Device: herolte
OS: /e/OS stable v1.2 (Android Q)

After a fresh and clean (wiped data and system partitions) install of /e/OS I set a password containing a extended ASCII character (a "Dagger" †). Then without doint anything else, I turned encryption on. The process completed sucessfully, but I was unable to start my device. Even if I typed in the correct password (I have REALLY made sure that is was the correct one) it said "Wrong password". I also tried decrypting the data partition with TWRP but that failed as well with the following error message:
E:Decrypt took too long, killing process
Failed to decrypt data.

I then wiped the data partition and tried the whole process again, but omiting the "†" in the password and et voila, it worked like it should.

EDIT: The TWRP decryption not working is unrelated, it also doesn't work without extended ASCII characters in the password.
