## WARNING: if your Pocophone F1 is running MiUI 10 (beta and above) based on Android 9.0 Pie
In Android 9.0 Pie and above, Xiaomi has introduced "anti roll-back protection". This means that you cannot simply flash a ROM based on an older version of Android from recovery. Due to this restriction, we need to first flash an Android 8.1 version of MiUI to disable anti roll-back protection and then install /e/.
If your smartphone is running MiUI 10 (beta and above) based on Android 9.0 Pie [please follow this procedure first](downgrade-from-pie) or you are likely to brick your smartphone.

## Install /e/ on **Pocophone** F1 - *"beryllium"*
>**Very important: please read the following carefully before proceeding!**
>
>Installing a new operating system on a mobile device can potentially:
>1. lead to all data destruction on the device
>1. make it an unrecoverable brick.
>
>So please only flash your device if you know what you are doing and are OK with taking the >associated risk.
>
>The /e/ project and its project members deny any and all responsibility about the consequences of >using /e/ software and/or /e/ services.
### Requirements
1. *Optional*: It is recommended that you have an /e/ account (like: john.doe@e.email) if you want to benefit from /e/ account integration for all online services such as: email, drive, calendar, notes, tasks. In order to get a test /e/ account, please read instructions [here](create-e-test-account).
1. Make sure your computer has working `adb` and `fastboot`. Setup instructions can be found [here](https://wiki.lineageos.org/adb_fastboot_guide.html).
1. Enable `USB debugging` under `Developer options` on your device.
1. Please read through the instructions at least once completely before actually following them to avoid any problems because you missed something!
### Installing /e/ coming from MiUI 10 (based on Android 9.0 Pie)
> Note: The following procedure assumes you have already unlocked your device's bootloader.
> Warning: The following procedure WILL delete all data on your phone (including files stored on the internal storage). Please do not hesitate to backup your photos, videos, SMS, call-logs, etc. to an external drive or PC! Files stored on the external SD card (if you have inserted one into your device) will NOT be deleted.
> Author's advice: For the following procedure, make sure you are willing to use ~ 2.4 GB of your monthly internet quota.
1. Download [Xiaomi's official "XiaoMiFlash" application](https://in.c.mi.com/thread-235054-1-0.html) and follow the installation instructions.
1. Once installed, download [Xiaomi's official "MiUI 10 Global Stable ROM"](http://bigota.d.miui.com/V10.0.6.0.OEJMIFH/beryllium_global_images_V10.0.6.0.OEJMIFH_20181113.0000.00_8.1_global_ad6e716a76.tgz) (based on Android 8.1).
1. Once downloaded, un-zip the TGZ file. Then, un-tar the TAR file.
1. Connect your device to your PC over USB. Then, run the following command:
```shell
adb reboot bootloader
```
1. On your PC, launch "XiaoMiFlash" and select the FOLDER you un-zipped above.
1. In the bottom right corner, select `clean all` (**Note:** DO NOT select "clean all and lock" as that will lock your devices' bootloader) and then click `flash`.
> Author's advice: Get yourself something to drink while you wait for the flash to complete.
1. Once the flash is complete, your device should boot into MiUI 10 (based on Android 8.1). Complete the setup wizard (you can skip setting up your accounts, fingerprint, etc.) and enable `USB debugging` under `Developer options`.
You've disabled anti roll-back protection! Now you can go back to the previous instructions and continue from "Installing a custom recovery".
