SMS Messages Duplicated After Restore
- /e/OS version: 3.0-t
- Device model(s): ~beyond2lte
- Impacted Application: Messages
- Affected application/URL:
- Browser/client and version:
## The problem
**Describe precisely the problem you're facing and add screenshots to illustrate**
After performing a backup and restore of SMS messages using the built-in /e/OS functionality, all messages appear duplicated in the Messages app. The messages are duplicate in each conversation. Clearing cache and app data of Messages does not resolve this; the duplicated messages are restored again via the Android native SMS database(?).
There is no user warning about potential message duplication before or during the restore process.
**Steps to reproduce**
- Create a backup of SMS messages on /e/OS 3.0-t.
- Restore that backup on the same or another device without first deleting existing conversations.
- Open the Messages app and observe duplicated conversations.
**Workaround**
To avoid message duplication after restore:
- Do not clear Messages app data.
- Manually delete all existing conversations in the Messages app before performing the restore.
- Then run the restore process — messages will appear only once in their respective conversations.
