Fairphone 5 completly dead after update

The problem

After the OTA update to 3.2 the phone doesn't react to anything. No booting, no charging animation, no vibrating when plugging in a cable. The phone seems to be in QDL mode (Qualcomm emergency download mode?). How do I exit that mode? And if that is not enough how do I gather debug info to find out why it falls back to this mode?

Things I tried to fix it:

• holding vol+/vol- and power button for 30s
• the same again with a cable plugged in
• taking out the battery for 2+ hours
• switching the battery with a functional FP5

Steps to reproduce

Update the phone via "System updates".

lsusb lists the phone as Qualcomm, Inc. Gobi Wireless Modem (QDL mode)
