Adaptive Brightness turns itself back on.

The problem

I have the same issues with adaptive brightness that I see in other reports, it cannot seem to sense and set appropriate brightness, either too bright or too dim, it's bad.

so I just wanted to turn it OFF. OFF. but if i turn it off, either with the toggle in the Settings or tapping the A in the pulldown, it turns itself back on again as soon as i turn the screen off and back on. It seems to stay if I leave the screen on and use it, but as soon as I turn off the screen or allow it to time out, it turns itself back on.

If there is no fix, could you let me know if other OnePlus phones are likely to have the same problem? I have an opportunity to move up to an 8T but not if it will do the same thing.

Steps to reproduce turn OFF Adaptive Brightness. shut off screen and look away turn it back on. pull down menu and stare angrily at the "A".
