App Lounge cannot show or install many "common" apps

The problem
The App Lounge hangs on a loading screen for many (but not all) "Common" apps. Open Source apps are not affected.
No matter if you select an app from the Lounge's home tab, from the categories tab, from a search, or by opening a play.google.com link, the screen stays black with an animated loading icon. Every few tries I’d get the error message "Google sign in failed! Due to a network error, App Lounge was not able to get Google sign-in data." It does not seem to matter whether I'm logged in as Anonymous or with my personal Google account. When clicking the blue "Install" button for one of the apps on the Home tab, the button will shortly flash "Cancel" and then immediately show "Retry" (which is unresponsive).
Other users report that the same apps that are hanging in the App Lounge give an error in the Aurora Store: "App not available for your device".
This problem comes and goes. I have been able to use App Lounge before without any problems, then I've had this issue for about a week, then it worked again for about 10 days and now it hangs again with the above erroneous behavior.
Steps to reproduce
- Launch App Lounge
- In Settings: deselect "Show open source apps" and "Show PWAs", leaving only "common" apps to be displayed.
- Try to view or install an app
I don't see a pattern in which apps do and don't work. A sample from my Home tab (Top Free Apps):
