Unable to link unsaved numbers to existing contacts in Messages

  • /e/ version: 2.5-t
  • Device model(s): beyond2lte
  • Developer mode enabled: yes
  • Device rooted: no
  • Trackers blocker enabled: yes

Summary

Enhance contact-saving functionality when receiving a message from an unsaved number.

The problem

Steps to reproduce

  1. Receive a message from an unsaved contact (number visible, no name assigned).
  2. Open conversation details by clicking on the three dots in the top-right corner.
  3. Select the "Save Number to Contacts" option (icon with a silhouette and a plus symbol).

What is the current behavior?

  • The Contacts app opens directly to the "Create New Contact" form.
  • It is not possible to associate the number with an existing contact (e.g., a contact with a known email address).

What is the expected correct behavior?

  • The Contacts app should open with a list of all existing contacts, displaying an option to "Create New Contact" at the top of the list.
  • The user should be able to search for an existing contact and associate the number with it or create a new contact.
