Summary
The finger sprint scanner of the GS290 is heating a lot, soon resulting in it not working and draining the battery.
The problem
Since I upgraded 4 or 5 versions at once at the end of august 2024, the finger sprint scanner started not behaving properly, first by heating a lot (making it hurtful to touch sometimes) and then by just not recognizing any finger when touched.
A very similar issue was reported before and closed as not reproducible because testers could indeed get it to work at first start, which is right: the finger print scanner does still work at start of the cellphone, but it heats very quickly as soon as the cellphone is booted. Then it quickly becomes so hot then stops to work.
The behavior also happens even if the finger sprint scan function is not activated, so it seems like the driver of the module has changed and is causing some issue with the detection, like if it would believe there's always something in contact to try and detect.
I also noticed since then that the battery gets emptied way faster than before (after 2 years with a battery lasting nearly a full week, it now gets emptied in less than a day), which seems coherent since the cell heats so much.
I can provide more info on my model and OS if required. Just let me know!
Thanks in advance.
