FP5 50Mpx photos seem only interpolated from 12Mpx

  • /e/ version: 2.2-t-20240715417772-stable-FP5
  • Device model(s): FP5
  • Developer mode enabled: yes
  • Device rooted: no
  • Trackers blocker enabled: yes

Summary

Since /e/OS 2.1, it's possible to use the 50Mpx resolution. But there is not more detail with this resolution, as if it was interpolated from the 12Mpx resolution

The problem

Steps to reproduce

  • use the pre-installed photo app
  • set the resolution to the highest: "8192x6144 (50,33MP)"
  • take a photo in a place where there would be distant details
  • set the resolution to "4096x3072 (12,58Mp)"
  • take a photo of the same place
  • open both photos side-by-side (on a computer, for example), and zoom them as much as you can
  • check if you see more details

What is the current behavior?

I can't see more detail in the 50Mpx photo. I don't see the point of using this resolution (and much heavier files) in this case.

What is the expected correct behavior?

The 50Mpx picture should give more detail. For example, a text that is hardly readable in 12 Mpx should be easily readable with 50Mpx (that has twice more pixels in height, and twice more pixels in width)

Could you check with stock Android on the FP5?

Technical informations

Example photos

Download these photos, open them with a software that can zoom at more than 100% (like the default app of Ubuntu: "Eye of Gnome"), to see the interpolated result of the 12 Mpx photo.

Zoom in some areas to check if you see a difference

Solutions

Workaround

Use the 12 Mpx resolution, like before
