FP4: Adaptive brightness feature is unable to learn using the lowest brightness setting in dark environment

  • /e/ version: 2.1-t-20240603406607-stable-FP4
  • Device model(s): FP4
  • Developer mode enabled: yes
  • Device rooted: no
  • Trackers blocker enabled: ?

Summary

I'm unable to teach this Android feature to use the lowest possible brightness in dark environment. I've never upped brightness, always lowering it in various lighting environments, yet it never learn in the long term. It learns in the moment, but few minutes later it is back on previous behaviour. The lowest I get (automatically) is brightness around 20% of the slider.

The problem

Steps to reproduce

  1. Step into darkness.
  2. Lower the brightness all the way to the left.
  3. Press power button to turn off screen.
  4. Press it again few minutes later. And observe brightness (e.g. by looking at brightness slider).
  5. Repeat steps 2-4 indefinitely.

What is the current behavior?

Adapting to light environment results in the same brightness amount all the time for anybody using FP4. I mean it adapts to light, but not to my customs.

What is the expected correct behavior?

I believe it should learn my customs and adapt brightness setting to lower numbers since I constantly lower it in various situations and never increasing it.

Technical informations

This is not a regression. I've experienced this on /e/ version 1.x and also with previous version of /e/ android (12).

Workaround

None, lower brightness manually at night every day.
