Summary
If an app is both on the F-Droid store and the Google Play Store, there should be a way to install the Google Play version instead of the F-Droid version.
Description
What is the current behavior?
If there is an app on both F-Droid and the Google Play Store, the F-Droid version is automatically installed.
What is the improved behavior?
I would like to be able to have an opt-in setting that allows me to install the Google Play Store version instead of the F-Droid version. This could be a general setting (so it applies to all F-Droid apps) or a per-app setting, so that I can select the Google Play Store version on the page of the specific app I want to install.
What does it bring?
Some apps like Jellyfin have a Google Play Store version and an F-Droid version. The Google Play Store version contains proprietary blobs which allows support for Chromecast whereas the F-Droid version doesn't.
There are other apps which have the same thing, where they have no proprietary dependencies on the F-Droid version, but these dependencies are included in the Google Play Store version. This sometimes leads to a situation where certain functionality is disabled in the F-Droid version but enabled in the Google Play Store version.
