Contact shows as 'Unknown'
What is the expected correct behavior?

History
This issue seems to have been first reported on the /e/ forum four years ago, and shortly before that on the Fairphone forum by users of the stock Android ROM (then Android 10).
This issue was reported here 2 years ago as #3078 (closed) and closed without resolution.
This bug has a very nasty interaction with the 'Block unknown callers' setting; namely, because all callers are mistakenly considered 'Unknown', all calls are blocked.
The format in which the phone number saved for the contact is written (i.e., with or without dialing code) does not make any difference.
Solutions
Workaround
The four-year-old workaround presented in the Fairphone thread of disabling 4G Calling and Wi-Fi Calling still works.
