Allow to access the "Threema" app directly via App Lounge
Summary
Allow to access the "Threema" app directly via App Lounge.
Description
What is the feature?
Threema is an (in some countries) very popular open source messaging app (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Threema). The particularity of this app: It only works if the user makes a one-time license payment.
- The licence can be paid either directly via Play Store. In this case the app is downloadable.
- Or the license can be purchased via the manufacturers website (https://shop.threema.ch/en). Once the license has been purchased, the apps' APK file can be downloaded from the same website. Subsequently, it needs to installed manually on /e/OS
Currently, there is no easy way for /e/OS users neither to access the Threema app nor to update the Threema app (currently, updating the app requires to download a new version of the APK file and installing it)
It would be desirable to make Threema better accessible for /e/ users as the app is one that is in line with the privacy expectations of /e/ users.
A solution could look like this:
- The manufacturer offers since a little while a specific version "ThreemaLibre" via a dedicated F-Droid repository (https://threema.ch/en/faq/libre_installation). This version could be integrated into App Lounge instead of the Play Store version. A licence code should still be purchased via the manufacturers website.
- ideally there was an option as well to pay the licence straight via App Lounge.
Who will use this new feature?
Threema users within the /e/ ecosystem
Why these users would like to use this feature?
This feature would lower the barrier to use Threema within /e/OS.
