Samsung Galaxy S7 WIFI unstable / streaming radiostations does not work (if screen is off)

  • /e/ version: /e/OS1.7-20230112251029
  • Device model(s): Samsung S7 (HEROLTE)
  • Device rooted: no

Summary

When screen is off, the WIFI connection gets unstable

The problem

When screen is off, the WIFI disconnect after some time and reconnect when screen will be turned on again. Sometime reconnects only after turning WIFI off and on again. Over the syslog of the router shows many disconects and reconnects. Due to that streaming radio or youtube music when screen is off is not possible using WIFI.

Steps to reproduce

Install a radio app (Transistor from the appstore) and start playing music. Turn screen off and let it play. Or open newpipe and play a video. Turn the screen off and wait.

What is the current behavior?

After some time, the WIFI cuts out and streaming will use mobile data (im my case only 64kbit) then the stream starts buffering and stops playing. Sometime it takes 10 Minutes, sometimes it plays 1h before it cuts out.

What is the expected correct behavior?

Wifi should not disconnect during screen is off and streaming should work using WIFI without.

Workaround

I tried the following things already:

  • Update the routers firmware
  • use 5GHz only
  • Disable any energysaver in the Phone
  • Disable the relvant apps (newpipe / transistor) battery optimazation
  • Using Bluetooth headphones
  • Using not bluetooth headphones, just speaker
  • different WIFI security settings (WPA2 / WPA3)
  • try another router
  • Factory reset network settings
  • factory reset the phone
  • flash last orignal samsung ROM and reinstall e.

Nothing helped in the long run.
