/e/ seems to report DNS changes to Google
- /e/ version: 1.4
- Device model(s): Xiaomi Redmi Note 8T
- Device rooted: no
Summary
Changing the DNS settings to use NextDNS reveals suspicious connections to google servers.
The problem
Set the phone to use NextDNS using TLS in the system settings according to the guide on their website. NextDNS then lists a connection to [8 varying hex digits]-dnsotls-ds.metric.gstatic.com
as its first two items.
These is more discussion on this in this forum thread.
The system should not be connecting to Google at all. If DNS changes cause a connection to Google's log server, then likely other parts of the system do, too.
