vendor_boot image malfunction for Asus Zenfone 8
- /e/ version: 1.0, 1.1, 1.2
- Device model(s): Zenfone8 'sake'
- Device rooted: no
Summary
The vendor_boot image supplied in the installation documentation is not working for android 11. Unable to load recovery or install
The problem
Steps to reproduce
Follow installation steps as documented here: https://doc.e.foundation/devices/sake/install After flashing vendor_boot.img from supplied link, flash recovery image. Reboot into fastboot and load recovery.
What is the current behavior? Recovery does not start. In most cases, device restarts to fastboot. In some cases the ramdump error appears, then the device needs to discharge until it's fully shut down before able to load fastboot again.
First flashing recovery works to then load recovery. Flashing vendor_boot from this point and immediately installing the e-1.2 package results in "error: success". Restarting the device to finish the /e/ setup either results in a) reboot cycle to fastboot, b) ramdump error or c) actually able to boot /e/ but extremely slow UI (about 60s lag on input), crashing UI.
What is the expected correct behavior? Working vendor_boot.img.
Technical informations
Unfortunately I have already taken the device in use with LineageOS as I need a phone. Details of the steps taken can be found here: https://community.e.foundation/t/zenfone-8-keeps-rebooting-in-bootloader-after-flashing-recovery/42723/18
