FP4: Ogg Vorbis audio files do not play

  • /e/ version: 0.23-20220413178020
  • Device model(s): FP4
  • Device rooted: no

Summary

Ogg Vorbis audio files don't play in either the built-in Music player, or Opus 1.

The problem

The files show up in the file listing, but if I try to play a directory full of OGG files, no sound is produced. Both the built-in music player, and Opus 1, are fine with MP3 files. VLC is able to play both OGG files and MP3s.

Steps to reproduce

Place some OGG audio files on the handset, and open the Music player (or Opus 1). Try to play them.

What is the current behavior?

The player steps through the files at the rate of about one every two seconds, and no sound is produced.

What is the expected correct behavior?

Sound should be produced.

Technical information

There is a commmunity discussion thread about this issue, which seems to be similar to an earlier issue on the FP3/3+.

Apparently CalyxOS have already confirmed and fixed the issue.

Solutions

Workaround

Use VLC (though like most players, it is very bad for classical music, which is why I'm using Opus 1).

Possible fixes

See linked CalyxOS and FP3 posts.
