/e/ XMMP account for all users with /e/ account.
You can take a look at my proposal on the /e/ users forum:
Though I was not aware those forums were not reviewed by /e/ developers.
In general, I believe XMMP with omemo is the non distributed, but yet decentralized, more privacy oriented communication mechanism. The mechanism leaks the least meta data compared to others like Matrix, and with omemo keeps everything e2ee with double ratchet, as opposed to Matrix which uses Jitsi for video calls, and which does only webrtc encryption. And it doesn't require phone number as opposed to for example Signal. An additional thing to consider is how low on resources XMPP servers/instances are, compared to others like Matrix...
Hopefully /e/ foundation will consider providing an XMMP account for all users already having an /e/ account, and hopefully the XMMP servers support omemo (there's server requirements for omemo support), and have best in class security, hopefully being totally complaint with:
There's no need for modified/special /e/ apps for the phone. Hopefully conversations from F-Droid and Dino on the desktop for example can be used on such account.
Hoping /e/ foundation takes this proposal into account, thanks !
