Broken DNS settings in Browser for some users after updating to /e/OS 0.16

  • /e/ version: 0.16-p and 0.16-q
  • Device model(s): FP3

Summary

Reported here and here and here.

The problem

Steps to reproduce

Update to 0.16.

I wasn't able to reproduce the issue on my FP3 though.

What is the current behavior?

  1. In Browser > Settings > Privacy and security > Use secure DNS > the default setting for some users is "Choose another provider".

  2. This new default setting causes websites not being reachable:

The site can’t be reached
…
Try :

    checking the connection
    Checking the secure DNS configuration
    ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED

What is the expected correct behavior?

It should work no matter the setting.
