Improve default weather app & widget
- /e/ version: 0.16q
- Device model(s): Redmi Note 8T
Summary
There are several issues opened related either directly or not directly weather app or widget. Those are from #2559 , #2984 (closed) , #2838 (closed) to even #1768 (closed) last one even suggesting to remove weather app from build. (Actually sems like it is removed from 0.16q, but I still leave this suggestion in case there will be default app in planning.
While I do still think widgets should be removeable etc. I also think there's some kind issue with default wearher app and it could be better, so solution could be to improve it. I don't know is it reasonabe to think thses could be placed to current weather app or not, but I suggest something here which I think would improve app & at least this could possibly be opening for discussion & suggestions.
Improvement suggestions:
- Needless to say that those other issues especialy #2559 should get fixed etc. but other than that.
- Give optional weather sources. ie. with FMI Open data ( https://en.ilmatieteenlaitos.fi/open-data ) you would get data sets ( https://en.ilmatieteenlaitos.fi/open-data-sets-available ) and if not changed, it doesn't require API key to use it ( it used to require at beginning ). Sure that data sotce is not suitable for everyone / -place, so maybe yr.no too ( https://hjelp.yr.no/hc/en-us/articles/360001940793-Free-weather-data-service-from-Yr ). I don't know much more of yr.no but seems that gnome wearher is using it. Some others possibly too.
- Option to add multiple locations (or same one with coulple different weather data source) so you could easily swipe and comparison weather forecast between cities or weather sources.
One UI lookup I especially like is from Sailfish app Meecast, I just leave link for screenshots. ( https://openrepos.net/content/vasvlad/meecast-sailfishos )
Description
What is the current behavior?
Currently there's (was?) one weather source which might, or might not give precise information + doesn't include weathermap at all, also openweathermap weathermap is not good for some places. Other options also could provide lightning strikes etc.
What is the improved behavior?
User would have option to select best fitting weather source for the needs, or maybe more than one to compare forecasts. That could include also descent weather maps etc.
What does it bring?
If default weather app would be suitable for many usercase, there wouldn't be need to find better alternative.
Examples
More options with more precise datasets when user can select between multiple datasources.
Validation
Hopefully this will open discussion which will lead to some end, if not then I quess everyone just finds app they like for, if available.
