Sending mms from default message app fail to send (group message, also)

The problem

Steps to reproduce

Open message app write a message and attach a small 31kB file and press 'send'

What is the current behavior?

Message displays as 'Sending...'for 1-2 minutes and finally 'Message failed to send. Tap to try again'

What is the expected correct behavior?

Message should be sent within seconds, as it does with stock android on same device. APN settings identical, data turned on.
