Apps wants to update apps and then fails

  • /e/ version: 0.13-2020121490323 on Android 10
  • Device model(s): FP3

Summary

The Apps app tells me again and again that it has updates but fails to install them.

The problem

Frequently it happens that the Apps app informs me by notification that it has 3 updates. When I actualize them one by one or all at once they fail. This means Apps could download but not install them. In some cases the installation hangs and doesn't end, in other cases Apps crashes. But the next day I have them again. And the next day, and the next day. Then, after some days, these apps disappear from the updates list. Why?

Candidates for this are VLC, also RadioDroid, Twidere and especially FairMail which gets indeed a lot of new updates in a short time.

Maybe it matters whether Apps did install these apps or not. I also use F-Droid and Aurora to install apps. And maybe these problematic apps come from these other app stores, can't remember. But I never had such installation problems using these other stores even when I updated apps installed by Apps.

Steps to reproduce

Can't reproduce it. But I have this case once a week.

What is the current behavior?

see "The problem"

What is the expected correct behavior?

I expect that Apps lists only apps it can handle correctly. I know this could be not easy to determine. (see possible fixes)

Possible fixes

It would be good to have a feature which allows to exclude a single app from updates. Other app stores have this. This is not a solution but a proper workaround.
